Durif, or Petite Sirah, was created by botanist Francois Durif in Montpellier, France around 1880. It is a cross between Shiraz and a nearly extinct variety called Peloursin found in just a few places in the French Alps.
This is a big wine that will stain your glass with its deep and dark colour. It’s full bodied, robust and high in tannins, displaying black fruit notes like plum, black cherry and blackberry, and also features dark chocolate and spicy characters.
Durif, with all its colour, muscle and power, makes an impression like receiving remedial massage while eating 99% dark chocolate to the strains of an 80’s rock ballad.
